EXIF Viewer

Shows the hidden metadata inside a photo, including GPS location, camera, settings and date taken.

Your photo stays on this device

This tool runs entirely inside your web browser. Your photo is processed on your own device and is never sent to our servers. How this works

EXIF Viewer is a free tool that shows the hidden information stored inside a photo: where it was taken, which camera or phone was used, the camera settings, and the date and time. It reads JPEG, HEIC, PNG, WebP, TIFF and AVIF files in your browser, so the photo is never uploaded.

How to view photo metadata

  1. Drop a photo into the box or tap Choose file. For best results, use the original file from your camera or phone.
  2. A banner tells you straight away whether the photo contains its GPS location.
  3. The summary shows the camera, lens, date taken and settings. Expand any section to see every field.

What photos reveal

Before you share a photo

Social networks usually remove this data when you post, but sending the original file by email, as a document in a messaging app, or through a cloud link generally keeps it. If a photo contains data you don’t want to share, remove it with Remove EXIF Data, which doesn’t change the photo itself.

Why a photo shows no data

Screenshots, images saved from websites or social media, and photos from apps that strip metadata contain little or none. Location is also missing if location access was turned off for the camera.

Frequently asked questions

What is EXIF data?

EXIF is information your camera or phone saves inside each photo: the camera model, settings such as shutter speed, the date and time, and often the exact GPS location.

Can other people see where my photo was taken?

If the photo contains GPS data and you share the original file, yes. Many social networks remove it when you post, but email, messaging apps sending files, and cloud links often do not.

Is my photo uploaded to check it?

No. The metadata is read inside your browser. Nothing leaves your device.

Why is there no metadata?

Screenshots, images saved from websites, and photos already shared on social media usually have their metadata removed.
