PDF Metadata Viewer & Remover is a free tool that shows the hidden document properties of a PDF, such as the author, title, the program that created it and when it was created or edited, and removes them with one click. It runs in your browser, so the document is never uploaded.
How to check and remove PDF metadata
- Open a PDF. Its properties are listed straight away, with a warning if it contains personal details such as an author name.
- Click Remove all metadata and download to save a clean copy.
What PDF metadata can reveal
- Author: often the full name from the computer or Office account that created the file.
- Created with: the software and sometimes its version, such as “Microsoft Word for Microsoft 365”.
- Dates: when the document was first created and last changed, which may differ from what the document says.
- Title and subject: sometimes an old working title or a different client’s name from a reused template.
- XMP metadata: a second copy of these details, sometimes with editing history.
What isn’t removed
This removes document properties only. Names can also appear in the visible text, in comments and annotations, in form fields, or in hidden layers. Check the document itself before sharing it. For photos, useRemove EXIF Data, which removes camera and location information.

Is my PDF uploaded?
No. The PDF is processed inside your browser, so it never leaves your device. That makes it safe for contracts, bank statements, medical letters and other private documents.
What metadata can a PDF contain?
The title, author, subject, keywords, the program used to create it, and creation and modification dates. Many PDFs also contain XMP metadata, which can include editing history.
Does removing metadata change the pages?
No. Only the document properties are removed; every page looks exactly the same.
Does this remove everything identifying?
It removes the document properties. Names can also appear inside the pages themselves, in comments or in form fields, which this tool does not change.
