Remove EXIF Data is a free tool that deletes hidden metadata, including GPS location, camera details, dates and editing history, from JPEG, PNG and WebP photos. Unlike most tools, it doesn’t re-compress the image, so quality stays exactly the same. Photos are processed in your browser and never uploaded.
How to remove metadata from photos
- Drop one or more photos into the box, or tap Choose files.
- Each photo is cleaned immediately, with a list of what was removed.
- Download the cleaned photos individually or as a ZIP, and share those instead of the originals.
What is removed and what is kept
- Removed: EXIF (GPS location, camera model and serial number, settings, date and time), XMP (editing history and descriptions), IPTC (captions, keywords, author and copyright), comments, and PNG text notes.
- Kept: the image itself, byte for byte; the colour profile, so colours look the same; and, if the photo needs it, the rotation setting, so it still appears the right way up.
Why “without re-compressing” matters
Many metadata removers work by opening the photo and saving it again as a new JPG. That throws away a little quality every time and can change colours. This tool edits the file’s structure directly and removes only the metadata sections, leaving the picture data untouched. As a result, it’s also very fast, even for large photos.
Check your photos
Not sure what a photo contains? Open it in the EXIF Viewer first, and again after cleaning to confirm the location is gone. iPhone HEIC photos aren’t supported yet. Tip: iPhones usually send photos as JPG when you share them to other apps, and you can choose to remove location from the Options menu on the share sheet.
